With a sizeable group of panelists, different profiles, it is now developed one day conferences on “International Day for the dead in their place of work” organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, respectively the Executive Body of the Labour Inspectorate in cooperation with the KOSHA and SAFETY WORKPLACE STRESS. This topic addressed today was held in honor of those who lost their lives in workplace safety as a result of poor conditions and long working hours.
Minister of MLSW, Mr. Arban Abrashi, greeted the participants at the conference, said that the Ministry of MLSW is determined and strongly committed to strengthen the system of safety and health at work, which according to him the small number of inspectors is posing a serious limitation towards improving general.
Head Inspector of the Executive Body of the Labour Inspectorate Mr. Basri Ibrahimi during the debate said that the security situation in the workplace is not at the desired level; therefore the creation of working conditions more favorable, safer and healthier for the workers, for the prevention of accidents at work is necessary.
Mr. Ibrahim further added that the safety and health at work is more important than the Labour Law. He gave a figure of workers who lost a life in their place of work for 2015. He said that during the last year 9 workers were killed and 45 were injured.
During the conference the participants were given special attention as a key element called them “stress at work”, which was concluded as the main factor that causes emotional and psychological problems for the workers.
While the deputy inspector Mr. Agim Millaku said that the number of accidents at work in Kosovo is falling every year, while mentioned that according to the International Labour Organization in the world every 15 seconds a worker dies at his place of work.
As a conclusions reached at the end of this meeting was the need to undertake immediate first steps in defining and drafting the “List of occupational diseases’ and as soon formation of a National Council on health.
